Despite the high temperatures the 5th Annual Run for Child Abuse Prevention drew hundreds of attendees this past Saturday April 21st. Walker and runners braved the heat to show their support for our community youth and ran or walked 3k and 5k.

After the run, registrants were treated to lunch provided by In-N-Out Burger, performances from local youth including the Fontana High School drum line, home baked treats, booths of community businesses and organizations as well as a special guest speaker Keith Hosea who delivered a [..] message about his life as a youth. Attendees were also delighted by the appearance of the 66ers mascot, the beloved “Bernie”. This event is in recognition of April being Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month, connects people to organizations, service opportunities and other beneficial resources to encourage community involvement.

“We’re happy to collaborate with C.A.S.A on such an important event, we were able to spread the message of investing in young people’s lives through mentoring and distributed over 300 emergency kits to families, it was a great day. Says Joseph Williams, CEO of Youth Action Project.

“We were thrilled by the turnout from the community,” said C.A.S.A. Executive Director Kara Hunter. “It tells me that people care about our youth and are willing to do their part to ensure their well-being and that is what it is all about.” C.A.S.A. and YAP are already planning next year’s run and hope that people will mark their calendars for April 2013.

C.A.S.A of San Bernardino County is a nonprofit organization, working to improve the quality of life for children and youth in foster care and juvenile offenders with stable and consistent advocacy and mentoring provided through trained volunteers.

Youth Action Project is a nonprofit organization that works with San Bernardino youth to develop the necessary skills and habits needed for economic and social success. YAP partners with C.A.S.A. because they believe that neglecting education is detrimental for the individual’s mental, physical and emotional health, as well as their future.
