(San Bernardino, CA, February 25, 2010). Thursday evening, at Arroyo Valley High School,Youth Action Project defeated 99.1 KGGI 38 to 30 in a Jam n’ Slam basketball fundraiser. Over $1,100 was raised to benefit YAP’s annual Cesar Chavez Day of Service.
YAP has worked diligently planning the PAL Center park restoration. In honor of Cesar Chavez and as a commemoration of his work and service the restoration will be a great community benefit to Muscoy.
The park restoration is projected to cost over $17,000 just to resurface the basketball court. This is a major undertaking. Monetary and supply donations such as paint, shovels, and lawn mowers are needed. Community members are all encouraged to assist YAP within their capacity and financial reach to benefit the children of Muscoy.
“Once the project is complete the PAL Center can open its park gates once again to the community among them as families and children enjoy the park,” said YAP chief executive officer Joseph Williams. “We really appreciate 99.1 and all who came out to support our community endeavor.”
The Jam n’ Slam had a great turn out of Arroyo Valley High School Students and community members. “This is the first game I’ve ever been too and I’m really excited to be here,” said Arroyo tenth grader Alicia Johnston.
99.1 KGGI DJs played music during the duration of the game while hanging out with students and community members. “I had a great time. Got to participate in the shoot and shared some laughs with Dizzle when he came and sat next to us,” said Ahmahd Cummings an Arroyo Senior.
“We do this because we’re part of the community,” said 99.1 KGGI DJ KC.
YAP members worked hard to bring this event plan to fruition and their hard work will not go unnoticed. The funds raised will benefit a greater cause at the PAL Center park restoration on April 3.Volunteers and sponsorships are needed.
